The Specialized Inter-American Naval Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation (SIANC-ST&I) was held in Orlando, Florida, in April 2023. This marked the first time the event took place in the United States. Sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Global, and organized by Advanced CFD Solutions, LLC, the conference brought together representatives from 14 nations across North, Central, and South America, along with two international organizations: the Inter-American Defense Board and the Inter-American Naval Telecommunications Network.
The 2023 conference focused on "Naval Force Integration with Unmanned Systems," addressing challenges related to unmanned systems, knowledge management, and the development of a common operational picture. Participants engaged in working groups to explore strategies for enhancing interoperability and integrating emerging technologies into maritime operations.LinkedIn+2LinkedIn+2ONR+2
Keynote speakers included Dr. Brett Seidle, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, Test & Engineering, and Rear Adm. Lorin Selby, Chief of Naval Research. They emphasized the importance of international collaboration in science and technology to maintain a competitive edge and address evolving security challenges.
The conference also featured presentations from students at the University of Central Florida and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, highlighting academic contributions to naval science and technology. Additionally, attendees visited the Kennedy Space Center, fostering further engagement between military and civilian research communities.ONR
The outcomes of the conference were documented in a final resolution, outlining declarations, recommendations, and action items for the next two years. These will be reviewed and approved by the Heads of Navies during the Inter-American Naval Conference scheduled for September 2024.
